Created for the 10th edition of Sydney Contemporary, Project <,> is a pavilion presenting works by Korean painter Choi Youngwook, developed by Gallery LNL in collaboration with Studio Chen Lu.
The pavilion was conceived as a quiet, contemplative space within the intensity of the art fair. A sequence of technical paper screens and finely crafted timber frames forms a layered enclosure, creating a sense of separation without completely closing the space from its surroundings.
The architecture is deliberately restrained, allowing Choi Youngwook’s paintings to remain the focus. Softly filtered light, natural timber and translucent surfaces create an atmosphere of stillness and intimacy, while the arrangement of screens gradually reveals the works as visitors move through the pavilion.
The pavilion becomes a temporary sanctuary, offering a moment of pause and reflection amid the hustle and bustle of an art fair.
