ABOUT
Studio Chen Lu is a Sydney-based design practice working across interiors, scenography and objects.Every project begins with a process of distillation, reducing an idea to its essence. By framing emptiness, each project creates the conditions for occupation, interpretation and transformation. What remains is not absence, but possibility.
In residential and commercial interiors, emptiness is carefully framed to create spaces that are calm, adaptable and quietly layered. Joinery conceals as much as it reveals, allowing rooms to transform with the rhythms of daily life. Materials are chosen for their restraint rather than spectacle, creating clarity and leaving room for everyday life to unfold.
Emptiness becomes the stage in scenography, exhibitions and retail environments. Space is framed rather than filled, allowing products, artworks and narratives to assume presence without excess. Each installation is conceived as an experience, whether for a moment, a season, or a single event.
The same philosophy extends across every project. Applied to objects, function becomes intentionally ambiguous. Rather than prescribing a single use, Lu's objects invite interpretation, engaging the imagination and creating space for personal discovery.
Across every scale, Studio Chen Lu works closely with master craftsmen and artisans, realising each project through considered materials and meticulous attention to detail.
Studio Chen Lu has created work for Hermès, Georg Jensen, Paspaley Pearls, Grandiflora Fragrance, Jack+Jack, bills, Simon Johnson, Billy Kwong, Light Brigade Hotel, Monument Magazine, Vogue Living, Belle, Art + Australia, Ondene, Broached Commissions, the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA), Yuill Crowley Gallery, and private clients.
